(VOVWORLD) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed on Monday for countries to step up aid to Sudan, where a conflict between rival military factions has forced 2.2 million people from their homes and sparked a major humanitarian crisis.

The UN said 3 billion USD is needed this year for humanitarian relief inside Sudan and for refugees who have fled Sudan, only a fraction of which has been pledged.
Germany announced on Monday that it is pledging 200 million euros to Sudan and the region until 2024, Qatar has pledged 50 million USD, and USAID administrator Samantha Power said the US will donate an additional 171 million USD.
