Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, told reporters that the secretary-general firmly believes in the need for dialogue between the parties involved as probably the best way to defuse tension and to avoid any escalation. Dujarric said Guterres and his team are following the situation closely and the world body has been in contact with the parties at various levels. The same day, Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) denied that it has received US President Donald Trump's message to Iran via Oman. Earlier on the day, western media reported that Tehran had received a message from President Trump warning that a US attack on Iran was imminent, but he was against war and wanted talks on a range of issues.
