(VOVworld) – On Wednesday, the UN Security Council gave South Sudan President Salva Kiir until September 1 to approve a peace accord to put an end to the bloody conflict that has lasted for nearly 2 years in this country.

The decision was made after President Kirr signing the accord with reservations which hinders the implementation of the document.
Speaking to the press at the UN headquarters in New York, Nigerian ambassador and President of the UN Security Council Joy Ogwu stressed that the fixed time is designed for President Kirr to complete the peace accord which was already signed by rebel leader Reik Machar on August 17. The 15-member council had threatened on the eve of the signing to take "immediate action" if Kiir failed to sign, or signed with reservations.

On the same day, UN Chief Ban Ki-moon praised President Kirr’s action, saying this is the key step to put an end to conflict, violence and human rights violation in South Sudan.
