At an end-of-year news conference in New York, Guterres urged Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers to include all ethnic groups in the government, restore girls’ right to an education at all levels and women’s right to work, and to stop all terrorist activities in its territory.
He said the UN is determined to pursue the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, saying the international community also must pursue this goal for peace and security in East Asia and the world.
Guterres said the UN condemns violence against the Palestinians and continues to support a two-state solution.
The UN chief added that the UN will do everything possible to prevent the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group (China, France, Russia, the UK, the US, and Germany) from being destroyed.
