(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam always attaches importance to multilateral cooperation and the role of UNESCO, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son told visiting President of the 42nd General Conference of UNESCO Simona-Mirela Miculescu in Hanoi on Thursday.

The Minister said Vietnam stands ready to share its experience and success stories with other UNESCO members.
Welcoming Miculescu's visit, the first by a UNESCO General Conference President since 2000, Minister Son pledged that Vietnam will continue to contribute to UNESCO's work and prepare for the UN Summit of the Future slated for September in New York.He said UNESCO's support has spurred sustainable socio-economic development and promoted the culture, land, and people of Vietnam.
He called for more help from UNESCO, such as consultations and experience sharing in socio-economic development and collaboration in training high-quality personnel.
Ms. Miculescu said Vietnam is a reliable and responsible member of UNESCO, and a leading country in implementing UNESCO programs and activities. She said Vietnam has won the trust and confidence of international friends. Few countries besides Vietnam have undertaken positions in five key UNESCO management mechanisms at the same time.
She praised Vietnam for hosting important events this year, including a ceremony to mark 10 years since the Tràng An Landscape Complex received the title World Heritage Site; a ceremony to recognize Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago as a World Heritage Site; and the 8th International Conference of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in the Asia-Pacific region to be held in Cao Bang province in September.
