This was one of the activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the adoption of a UNESCO Resolution honouring Uncle Ho as a Hero of National Liberation and a Great Man of Culture of Vietnam.
Addressing the event, Xing Qu, UNESCO’s Deputy Director General, said, “UNESCO members honor those who have pursued an ideal in which the power of education and culture nurture the identity and aspirations of the people and help the people better understand each other.”
“This is the basis of UNESCO's mission. President Ho Chi Minh strongly believed in that ideal and made culture and education the pillars of Vietnam's independence and the progress of the Vietnamese people,” said Xing Qu.
Assistant to the Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said the UNESCO resolution was a recognition of President Ho Chi Minh's great contributions to the common struggle of the world’s peoples against oppression and injustice, and for national independence and social progress.
“President Ho Chi Minh contributed a system of practical and theoretical values which have not only an ideological significance, but also a global and timeless significance. Those values are the same values UNESCO maintains today,” according to Hang.
To mark this occasion, the National Political Publishing House organized an exhibit of publications, paintings, and photos featuring the revolutionary life of President Ho Chi Minh and some outstanding achievements of Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era.
