(VOVworld) - UNESCO has warned that half of more than 6,700 languages spoken worldwide are in danger of disappearing by the end of this century. In a message commemorating the 13
th edition of International Mother Tongue Day on Tuesday, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova underlined that linguistic diversity is as important as bio-diversity in nature. The organization has set up an electronic version of UNESCO Interactive Atlas of the World’s Languages, in which gathered more than 2,500 languages on the verge of extinction. The version is frequently updated and adjusted based on suggestions of users.
