(VOVworld) – The refugee situation in East Africa and the Horn of Africa is alarming due to food shortage and armed conflicts, said Victoria Akyeampong, Head of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) for East Africa and Horn of Africa.

During a visit to Arusha city in Tanzania on Sunday, Akyeampong emphasized the need for a mechanism to address the crisis. The UNHCR regional leader and the East African Community Secretary General Liberat Mfumukeko agreed to form a special group to develop and implement mechanisms for the management of refugees in the region.
