(VOVworld) – Jean-Paul Laborde, UN Assistant Secretary-General and executive director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee, said Tuesday that there are some 30,000 terrorists in Syria and Iraq and warned that the risk of terrorist attacks in their home countries is increasing. He urged countries to establish a screening system to exclude them.

Mr. Laborde underlined that the international community needs judicial tools to fight terrorism, and warned that terrorist organizations are highly adaptable and flexible. He called for more cooperation with internet giants like Google, Twitter, and Microsoft, to monitor potential terrorists and urged countries to share intelligence to lessen the risk.
