US, China issue joint statement on nuclear security cooperation
(VOVworld) – On Thursday, the US and China issued a joint statement on nuclear security cooperation on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.
The two countries are committed to promoting a peaceful, stable international environment by reducing nuclear terrorist threats and striving for a stable global nuclear security mechanism. The two countries showed a strong commitment to resolving nuclear security challenges even after the Nuclear Security Summit. They agreed to cooperate in investigating and preventing the smuggling of nuclear materials and other issues of nuclear security. The two completed their first round of bilateral talks on nuclear security in Stockholm on February 20 and will continue this annual dialogue to strengthen cooperation against nuclear terrorism and promote the goals of the Nuclear Security Summit.
Also on Thursday, the US, Japan, and the Republic of Korea agreed to a joint effort to enforce UN sanctions on North Korea for its nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The pledge was made at a meeting of President Obama, President Park Geun Hye and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit.
