US condemns North Korea’s missile launch
(VOVWORLD) - The US State Department on Tuesday condemned North Korea’s missile launch and called on both Pyongyang and Seoul to engage in a dialogue process amid escalating tensions.
The statement says North Korea’s missile launch is a violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and poses a threat to the North’s neighbors and the international community. The US remains committed to a diplomatic approach to North Korea and calls on them to engage in talks.
South Korea’s military said a projectile fired from North Korea’s mountainous northern Jagang province at about 6:40am local time flew towards the North’s eastern sea.
Details of the launch were being analysed by South Korean and US authorities. But Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said North Korea fired “what could be a ballistic missile” and that his government had stepped up its vigilance and surveillance.
