US congressmen hail President Barack Obama’s visit to Vietnam
(VOVworld) – Senator John McCain, Chairman of the US Senate Committee on Armed Services said President Barack Obama’s visit to Vietnam shows great progress in relations between the two countries.

Senator McCain said in order to ensure Vietnam plays a more important role in maintaining security and peace in Asia-Pacific region, the US needs to cooperate with Vietnam in information sharing and enhancing the ability to react in the East Sea as well as foster cooperation between the two naval forces. McCain said it was time to remove the weapons sanctions against Vietnam. Former US Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, also former Chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, issued a statement hailing President Obama’s visit. He supported the removal of weapon sanctions on Vietnam. He also voiced his support to US congress’s approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, saying that the agreement will benefit both countries.
