(VOVWORLD) - White House officials convened industry representatives from American venture capital, technology, and defense sectors on Monday to discuss strategies for arming Ukraine with up-to-date weapons systems.
US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan arranged the meeting, which lasted five hours and included key members of the National Security Council as well as executives from companies such as Fortem Aerospace, Palantir Technologies, and drone producer Skydio.
The meeting aimed to promote “renewed emphasis” on helping Ukraine overcome its key technological challenges, senior administration officials told reporters.
Another senior official said the conversation focused on a number of issues, including unmanned aerial systems and countermeasures. The demining challenge was also addressed.
Also on Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged other EU nations to deliver more military aid to Ukraine, saying Berlin has asked Brussels to check with countries on their planned support for Kyiv.
peaking to reporters, Scholz warned that while his government is planning to double its military aid to Ukraine to 8 billion euros this year within a draft budget, “this alone will not be enough to guarantee Ukraine’s security in the long term.”
The chancellor also expressed optimism that EU countries can overcome Hungary’s objections to a 50 billion euro aid package for Ukraine, which is slated to be adopted during the February summit.
