(VOVworld) - The US non-profit organization Clear Path International announces that an aid package of 524,000 USD has been adopted by the US government to help victims of unexploded ordnance (UXO) left from the war in Vietnam.

The organization’s representative said the non-refundable aid will help it expand its Vietnamese operations and UXO victim assistance initiatives.

Clear Path International is a non-profit organization, which helps war victims in 5 Asian countries, including Vietnam.  The organization began its operations in Vietnam in 2010, mostly in the central province of Quang Tri. Jay Sklar, Clear Path International’s Director in Southeast Asia, said the organization plans to expand its operation across Vietnam this year.

The war ended 38 years ago. But remnants of bombs, landmines, and other unexploded ordnance remain a pressing issue in Vietnam. There are an estimated 800,000 tons of unexploded bombs and ordnance in Vietnam, wounding hundreds of civilians every year. Last year, 53 accidents relating to bombs and mines occurred in Quang Tri province.
