US hopes to sign China trade deal next month

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump said he still hopes to sign a trade deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming weeks.
Chile canceled its hosting of next month’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, where the two leaders were expected to meet on the sidelines to sign a preliminary agreement.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Wednesday that the two sides are close to an agreement that the two leaders can sign in the near future. He said phone conversations have gone smoothly and he hopes there will be no need for face-to-face meetings to reach a US-China trade agreement.
