(VOVworld) – The Republican Party has won another 7 seats and secured 15 re-elected seats to possess 52 of 100 seats in the US Senate.

The victory enables Republicans to take control of the US Congress. According to US media, Democrats lost in 7 states including Montana, Ankansas, South Dakota, West Virginia, Iowa, and Colorado. This is the first time the Republicans have won control of the US Senate since the election in 2006.
Meanwhile, the Republican party has dominated in the race for the 435 seats in the US House of Representatives. CBS News projected the Republicans would hold at least 226 of the 435 House seats. NBC said the party would take 242 seats.
