(VOVworld) – US President Barack Obama has said he will comprehensively reform the National Security Agency (NSA). In an interview with the MSNBC TV channel, he partially disclosed what he’s going to do next month which is to establish an independent review. A new group of lawyers, civil libertarians, and others will examine the activities of the NSA.

He went on to say that there would be changes in the NSA’s data collection operations to regain public confidence. The President did not comment on details of NSA programs but said that while recent revelations about the agency's activities have raised legitimate concerns, some aspects have been exaggerated. He added that some surveillance was necessary in order to prevent terrorist attacks on US soil, but the agency's activities were constrained.
