Mr. Trump said the further tariffs are being considered in light of China’s unfair retaliation against earlier US trade actions. The Chinese Trade Ministry filed a complaint with the WTO, accusing the US of protectionism under the pretext of ensuring national security.

Chinese Ambassador to the WTO Zhang Xiangchen said Wednesday that the US policy clearly violates WTO regulations.

Last month, the US began imposing a 25% tariff on steel imports and a 10% tariff on aluminum. China was not included in the list of countries exempted from the tariff.
