(VOVworld) – House Speaker Paul Ryan told Republican legislators on Monday that he will no longer campaign with or defend US Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Ryan said he will spend the next month focusing entirely on protecting the Republican congressional majority. His move is unprecedented in US political history with just a month left before the presidential election.

Trump responded to the House Speaker on Twitter, saying Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs, and illegal immigration than on fighting the Republican nominee. Trump and Ryan were scheduled to appear together in Wisconsin on Saturday, but Ryan uninvited Trump after the Washington Post published a video showing Trump making offensive comments about women.
