US, Russia open to first ministerial defense talks
(VOVWORLD) - US Defense Secretary James Mattis is open to the possibility of holding the first talks since 2015, between the defense chiefs of the US and Russia, a move that will deepen communication between Washington and Moscow, US officials said.

The possibility of talks surfaced after Monday’s summit in Helsinki between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which they sought an end to years of strained relations.
Discussions between Mattis and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will be another step towards creating more regular upper-level political talks between the two nuclear powers, whose relations have deteriorated in recent years to the worst point since the Cold War.
