US says it shoots down drones launched by Houthis in Red Sea
(VOVWORLD) - The United States said Tuesday that it had shot down dozens of attack drones and missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthis targeting ships in the Red Sea.

In a statement, US Central Command said the USS Laboon, a guided-missile destroyer, and F-18 fighter jets from the Eisenhower carrier strike group were involved in the effort to down 12 attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land attack cruise missiles in the southern Red Sea that were fired by the Houthis over a 10-hour period.
There was no damage to ships in the area or injuries reported, US Central Command said. The statement was made after Houthi militia claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Tuesday on a container ship in the Red Sea, and a drone attack against Israel in solidarity with Gaza.
According to the Pentagon, since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, the Houthis have launched more than 100 attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
