(VOVworld) – China, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands on Thursday demanded that the US give a thorough explanation for its alleged espionage. The Fairfax Media and the Sydney Morning Herald said Australian embassies in Jakarta, Bangkok, and Beijing were being used as part of a US-led spying operation.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters that China is concerned about this report and demands that the US and its allies offer a clear explanation. She added that China expects Australia’s close cooperation with China in this matter.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said in a statement on Thursday that Indonesia cannot accept and strongly protests the news of the installation of wiretapping devices at the US embassy in Jakarta. He called such action not only a breach of security but also a serious breach of diplomatic norms and ethics which goes against the spirit of bilateral ties.
The same day, Dutch Minister of Interior Affairs Ronald Plasterk said in a televised program that it is not acceptable that an ally fails to abide by Dutch law.
