The project is considered an initiative to phase out the use of fossil fuels, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, the Nationally Determined Contributions of Thailand (Thailand’s NDC), and the bilateral agreement between Switzerland and Thailand.

It covers buses on scheduled routes, which will encourage the people to travel by modern and low-carbon public transport. The change form fossil fuels to clean energy will help reduce the amount of PM 2.5 dust, as well as air and noise pollution, thus improving environmental quality the people’s health.

Thailand is driving the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions toward a sustainable, low-carbon economy and society. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Varawut Silpa-archa also said that the Kingdom would aim to cut emissions by 40 percent by 2030, a significant increase from its original 30 percent pledge.

In its "30@30 policy,” Thailand plans to increase the number of EVs to 750,000 in 2030, or 30 percent of the total vehicle production in the country.

The Government has also been developing an ecosystem of the EV market that will be favorable for investment in this industry and will help Thailand become a major regional hub of EVs and parts and one of the most important EV production bases in the world.

Moreover, the promotion of the use of EVs will help reduce pollution, in line with Thailand’s national development under the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, which leads to eco-friendly economic growth.
