(VOVworld) – Venezuela’s opposition-led Congress suspended a political trial of President Nicolas Maduro to support its dialogue with the government initiated last Sunday.

Secretary-General of the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable Jesus Torrealba applauded the government’s release of 5 opposition leaders. He also called on Maduro to support a dialogue. Torrealba said the government is holding approximately 130 opposition politicians, including leader of the Popular Will party Leopoldo Lopez and former Caracas mayor Antonio Ledezma. The trial was suspended a day after the Democratic Unity Roundtable demanded that the government release jailed opposition activists and hold a referendum on President Maduro’s confidence vote this year or an early presidential election.
