She briefed them on the result of the summit, which commended Vietnam for accomplishing six of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially one on gender equality. Doan affirmed that the Party and State continue introducing guidelines and policies to create favorable conditions for women to develop their capabilities, so as to increase the number of females taking on leadership in State agencies and businesses. She appreciated the community’s sentiments towards the homeland, saying Vietnamese people in France were united to contribute to the country’s past struggle for national liberation and they now pool resources for national development. She took the occasion condemning China’s illegal placement of its oilrig Haiyang-981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone, saying the move is a serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty and has received strong opposition globally. She asked them, together with the Vietnamese embassy, to help French organizations and people understand the truth of the issue and gather additional international support for Vietnamese people’s struggle to defend national sovereignty.
