She met on Tuesday with Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba. During their meetings, Ms. Thinh said Vietnam always stands side by side with Cuba in the cause of national defence, construction, and development, while protesting and requesting the termination of the encirclement and embargo policies against Cuba.

On the same day, Vice President Thinh visited the Vietnam-Cuba rice-producing cooperation project (phase 5) in Pinar del Rio Province. The project is being implemented on the basis of an agreement signed between the two governments in 2018. It aims to continue to support Cuba in rice development, contributing to ensuring food security towards increasing Cuba’s rice productivity by 30% within the next five years. Later in the evening, Vice President Thinh and Cuba’s Culture Minister Alpidio Alonso Grau attended the opening ceremony of the “Vietnam Culture Days in Cuba”.
