Vietnam aims to provide clean water to nearly 90% of rural population

(VOVworld) – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang has urged the people and the private sector to participate in clean water supply and environmental sanitation in rural areas.

Mr. Thang was speaking at a seminar entitled “Improving the state management of clean water and environmental sanitation at the provincial level” in Hanoi on Tuesday. Reports indicate that, by the end of 2015, 86 percent of rural residents had clean water, 65 percent rural households have hygienic toilets, and 95 percent of school and health centers had hygienic water supplies and toilets. Mr. Thang said Vietnam aims to enable 90 percent of people in rural areas to access clean water and 50 percent of communes achieve new rural development criteria by 2020.
