(VOVworld) - Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh has responded to recent Chinese activities in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa or Paracel archipelago, including the deployment of a 10,000 tonnage vessel carrying 300 passengers to Oc Hoa island, building of a 3,500 meter air strip in Dao Cay island and land reclamation in An Vinh islands group.

He told the press on Thursday: “Vietnam once again reiterates its indisputable sovereignty in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. China’s reclamation, expansion, construction and changing the status quo, organizing tours to Hoang Sa in spite of concerns by Vietnam and the international community is gross violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty in Hoang Sa archipelago. These go against both countries' leaders’ joint perception, agreement on guiding principles to resolve problems at sea between Vietnam and China, negatively affecting bilateral ties and international law, impeaching the Declaration on Conducts of Parties in the East Sea signed in 2002 between the ASEAN and China, complicating the situation in the East Sea. Vietnam resolutely rejects and vehemently opposes Chinese activities, demanding immediate stop and no further recurrence of similar activities while respecting Vietnam’s sovereignty and international law, contributing practically to bilateral friendship and cooperation while maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea.”
