(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of the Vietnamese permanent mission to the United Nations, the WTO, and other international organizations in Geneva, attended the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which opened in Geneva on Monday.

At the opening ceremony, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and world leaders called on the international community to make further efforts to solve the challenges facing human rights, while strengthening cooperation in implementing global commitments, particularly the 2030 Agenda on sustainable development. Guterres and other UN officials expressed concern about the rise of terrorism, extremism, xenophobia, discrimination, and refugee migration.
Vietnam will deliver presentations and join discussions on a number of issues during the session, and will contribute to all documents of the UN Human Rights Council. On the sidelines of the session, Vietnam hosts an international seminar on Tuesday on the role of information and communication technology in promoting economic, cultural, and social rights, and reducing inequality.
The 4-week session will include discussions of human rights in Burundi, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Eritrea, Ukraine, Congo, and the Central Africa Republic.
