The trial is being carried out by the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology at Hanoi Medical University. Another 114 people will be vaccinated in stages, 8 days apart, until April 20.

“We expect this vaccine to be successful because it was a product of the dedication of many Vietnamese and foreign scientists," said Deputy Health Minister Tran Van Thuan.

"A pre-clinical trial study in Vietnam, India, and the US showed promising results against the original virus and against new variants of SAR-CoV-2 found in the UK and South Africa. With 2 vaccines, we can provide sufficient doses for domestic demand, and even think about export.”

Covivac, if the trial is successful, will sell for 2.8 USD per dose.
