Mr. Giang made the statement at a VESAK celebration held virtually in New York on Friday under the chair of the Ambassadors, heads of the Delegations to the UN of Thailand and Sri Lanka.
The Vietnamese diplomat insisted that in a world with more challenges and crises than ever, Buddha’s philosophy on peace, mercy, and harmony has become a important guideline in bringing peace for human being.
He underscored the need to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination in policies and actions, promote the values of peace, inclusiveness, compassion, and mercy.
Since 1999 the United Nations observed VESAK Day as an annual event after its General Assembly passed resolution 54/115 in recognition of the contributions of Buddhism, one of the oldest religions in the world, for people’s spiritual life and for joint efforts of the international community for peace, cooperation, harmony and development.
