Vietnam calls for peaceful settlement of disputes in Bosnia-Herzegovina

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam supports the role of regional institutions as well as global and regional treaties, and supports the settlement of disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, UN Charter, including mediators, and urged the parties to seek common views for peace, stability and development in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, on Tuesday attended a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He expressed concern about the complicated situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina which has affected sustainable peace, unity and prosperity of the country and its people.
The Vietnamese diplomat called for increased efforts to tackle challenges, stabilize the political situation, develop the economy and improve people's lives.
He called on relevant parties to promote trust-building and dialogue to overcome differences and make national reconciliation efforts, including the support of the international community.
The Ambassador stressed the respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At a regular debate of the UN Security Council on May 4, UN Secretary General’s High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko presented a report for the period from October 16, 2020 to April 15, 2021, saying that the situation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has seen progress, with the organisation of local elections in November 2020, and elections in Mostar city after 12 years.
However, he noted that the country still faces challenges in ensuring peace and security.
