President Phuc on Sunday visited the headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva and worked with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as part of Mr. Phuc’s official visit to Switzerland.
The Vietnamese President asked the World Health Organization to provide technical support for Vietnam's Nanocovax vaccine to participate in the WHO's global clinical trial program.
He announced that Vietnam will contribute an additional 500,000 USD to the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) Facility, bringing Vietnam's total voluntary contribution to COVAX to 1 million USD.
The WHO Director General backed the idea of making Vietnam a regional center for vaccine production, and said he will discuss with the WHO technical department the possibility of including Vietnamese-made vaccines in the WHO’s global trial program.
