(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam and Cambodia have issued a joint statement following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Cambodia on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The statement says that during meetings with Prime Minister Hun Sen and other Cambodia leaders, both sides agreed to promote bilateral ties under the motto of to good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable and durable cooperation, while addressing issues by peaceful means.
The two sides said they are determined to further their economic cooperation, support each other in building an independent and self-reliant economy, while ensuring extensive and effective international integration; soon complete the master plan to connect the two economies of Vietnam and Cambodia by 2030.
They pledged to accelerate defense and security cooperation, emphasizing the principle of not allowing any hostile forces to use the territory of one country to harm the security and interests of the other. The two sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in the protection of citizens in accordance with the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. They will strengthen cooperation to tackle cross border crimes, human trafficking and cyber security.
Both agreed to step up the search and repatriation of the remains of volunteer Vietnamese soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia, as well as the remains of Cambodian soldiers who died in Vietnam. They agreed to build a common border of peace, stability, cooperation and development.

Vietnam and Cambodia upheld the common view by the ASEAN on the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight, enhancing trust-building measures, not threatening or using force, complying with international law, and resolving disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
They voiced their strong support for parties in strictly and fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) as well as promoting the completion of an effective, substantive Code of Conduct (COC) in accordance with international law.
