(VOVWORLD) - Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font hosted a welcome ceremony in Santiago for Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong, who is on an official visit to the South American country on November 11.

Following the ceremony, the leaders held talks, where they compared notes on measures to deepen and raise the efficiency of the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
They discussed measures to enhance bilateral relationship, making it more intensive, substantive, and pragmatic towards advancing it to a higher level.
The two leaders agreed to continue promoting cooperation in areas of their strengths and interests, such as free trade, agriculture, sustainable development, renewable energy, science, education, tourism, defense, and security; actively negotiate and sign bilateral cooperation documents to fine tune the legal framework for sustainable development of bilateral; and create favorable conditions for the business communities to increase exchanges and cooperation to increase bilateral turnover commensurate with the potential of the two countries.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed that sovereignty and territory disputes should be resolved by peaceful means, with respect for international law, especially the UN Charter and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
After the talks, State President Luong Cuong and Chilean President Gabriel Boric met with the press, announcing significant developments in bilateral relations.
“In the context of rapidly evolving and complex international situation, we share many similar views on international and regional issues. The two sides support the stance of resolving international disagreements and disputes by peaceful means with respect for the United Nations Charter and international law. We agree that the two countries will continue to strengthen consultation, coordination, and mutual support at multilateral organizations and forums to jointly protect the interests and enhance the position of each country, making positive contributions to peace, security, stability, cooperation and development in the two regions and in the world,” said President Cuong.
