Vietnam, China promote negotiation on delineation of Gulf of Tonkin
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and China have held the 13th round of negotiations on the seas off the mouth of the Gulf of Tonkin and the 10th round of talks on cooperation for mutual development at sea.
During the online talks on Wednesday, both sides agreed to promote negotiation on the Tonkin Gulf delineation and discussed cooperation for joint development in the East Sea in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to which both Vietnam and China are parties. They agreed to comply with senior leaders’ view, including the Principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues and instruction from the governmental chief negotiators on borders and territories without further complicating the situation for peace and stability. They agreed to hold the next round of talks at appropriate time through diplomatic channels.
