Vietnam, Cuba forge closer ties

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has reiterated Vietnam’s unwavering solidarity, friendship, and support for Cuba, stressing that Vietnam is willing to share its developmental experience with the island state.

Mr. Minh, who is also the Vietnamese Foreign Minister, made the remarks during talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla in Havana on Monday. The two agreed that bilateral relations are growing, with the exchange of delegations maintained, bilateral cooperation mechanisms implemented effectively and two-way trade continuing to rise, reaching nearly 340 million USD. They discussed measures to facilitate bilateral investment and agreed to help Vietnamese and Cuban firms access each other’s respective markets. Both sides vowed to support the settlement of sovereignty disputes through peaceful measures in line with international law. Following the talks, Mr. Minh and Mr. Parilla signed a Political Consultation Plan for 2020-2022.

The same day, the Deputy Prime Minister met with First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee Raul Castro Ruz, President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, and President of the National Assembly of People’s Power Esteban Lazo Hernandez.
