Ms. Hang made the statement while answering a reporter's question about Vietnam's reaction to the US Department of Commerce (DOC)'s decision to continuing classifying Vietnam as a non-market economy country. She said Vietnam is disappointed about the decision, stating that it does not fully acknowledge Vietnam's efforts and achievements in building and developing a market economy, which have been recognized internationally.
The spokesperson said that Vietnamese agencies and businesses have actively worked with the US Department of Commerce, providing strong evidence that Vietnam's economy meets the six market economy criteria according to US law. This has been supported by many US and international associations, businesses, and experts. International organizations have acknowledged Vietnam's significant economic progress while 72 countries have recognized Vietnam as having a market economy. Vietnam has also joined many high-quality Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), she said.
Ms. Hang noted Vietnamese agencies will keep working with US partners to ensure stable and harmonious economic and trade relations, benefiting businesses and people in both countries.
On Friday, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade expressed regret over the US Department of Commerce's decision. It said it will continue to study and analyse the arguments in the DOC’s report assessing the Vietnamese economy so as to continue the supplementation and completion of the briefs and relevant dossiers to submit to the DOC to request another review to recognise the market economy status of Vietnam.
