Vietnam discusses defense cooperation with Laos, Australia
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam hopes Laos and other ASEAN members will join hands to consolidate defense-military cooperation mechanisms and build an ASEAN Community cohesive and responsive to external factors, National Defense Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich said at a meeting with his Lao counterpart General Chansamone Chanyalath in Hanoi on Tuesday within the framework of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Retreat (ADMM Retreat).

Minister Chanyalath appreciated Vietnam’s preparations for ADMM and other ASEAN activities this year. He said he believes under Vietnam’s chairmanship, ADMM and ADMM+ will maintain their important role in regional security.
On the same day, Minister Ngo Xuan Lich hosted a reception for Australian Defense Minister Linda Reynolds. Mr. Lich praised Vietnam-Australia cooperation and said Vietnam will send representatives to attend a conference on Women, Peace, and Security in Australia. Ms. Reynolds said she believes Vietnam will successfully organize ASEAN 2020 conferences and defense activities.
