New infections and outbreaks of emergent variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have brought India's health system to the brink of collapse.

Do Thanh Hai, Counselor for Vietnam’s Embassy in India, said only 100 Vietnamese citizens remain in the country, but several construction engineers have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Since the pandemic broke out, the Embassy has prioritized protecting citizens and repatriating them. More than 1,000 Vietnamese were living in India for study or work or married to Indians. 1,000 have returned home. Only about 100 remain,” said Hai.

“The Embassy maintains contact with them and hotlines are open round the clock to field their opinions and problems. Several Vietnamese construction engineers have falled ill and their condition is worsening. The Embassy worked with Indian authorities to facilitate admission to hospitals for these patients.”
