Vietnam emphasizes marine technology in sustainable development, climate change mitigation
(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam calls on countries worldwide to promote the development and transfer of marine science and technology under fair and reasonable terms and conditions, consistent with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.

Ambassador Le Thi Minh Thoa, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, made the statement at the 23rd Conference of the Informal Consultation Process on Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (ICP23) in New York.
The five-day meeting, which ended Friday, was themed “New marine technology: Challenges and opportunities” and drew 100 representatives of UN countries and international organizations.
Ambassador Thoa said application of marine technologies must comply with the provisions of UNCLOS – a comprehensive legal framework governing all activities related to the sea and ocean.
Thoa highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in implementing the National Strategy on Sustainable Development of the Marine Economy until 2030 with a vision to 2045 and the National Strategy on Climate Change by 2050, especially the application of marine technology to oil and gas exploration and exploitation, fishing, shipping, and hydro-meteorological forecasting to support Vietnam’s sustainable marine economy.
This year’s theme was proposed by Vietnam and adopted by the UN General Assembly last year.
