Vietnam enhances ties with New Zealand, Papua New Guinea
(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on Sunday met his New Zealand counterpart Winston Peters within the framework of the 26th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Papua New Guinea.
At the meeting, the two sides agreed to work closely at multilateral forums like ASEAN, APEC, and the UN and emphasized the importance of maintaining security, stability, and ruled-based order and ensuring security and safety of aviation and overflight.
Mr. Minh asked New Zealand to increase the quota of Vietnamese citizens participating in the Vacation Work Program. Minister Peters praised Vietnam’s ratification of the CPTPP.
On Saturday, Mr. Minh held talks with Papua New Guinea Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato. The two sides agreed on ways to further bilateral ties and increase cooperation in fisheries, agriculture, and health care. Papua New Guinea agreed to support Vietnam’s bid to become a non-Permanent Members of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure.
