(VOVworld) - A workshop titled “National consultation for new development agenda for post 2015” opened in Hanoi on Wednesday. The workshop was held 3 months after the UN asked 8 target groups in Vietnam for their views on what world they want in 2015 and what kind of development goals should be put in place. Viet Nam was selected for these national consultations because of its impressive Millennium Development Goal achievements. Addressing the workshop, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pratibha Mehta said Vietnam is facing numerous challenges amid unfavorable world conditions and catastrophic climate change. She added that each Millennium Development Goal poses internal challenges such as resolving imbalances between regions and between ethnic groups. These challenges require new approaches and solutions, so it will be necessary to make further efforts towards the MDGs even after 2015. “The post 2015 development framework reflects the world in which we live today, and takes into account issues that are not achievable in the MDGs adopted in 2000. At the same time, we must not forget the unfinished MDGs agenda though Vietnam has indeed meet impressive national progress on MDGs. Efforts are still needed to see that they are achieved in every villages, every cities and every provinces”, said UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pratibha Mehta.

The workshop attendees discussed challenges and their own aspirations for jobs, health care, education and vocational training. This information will be useful for the UN global consultation and the development process and policy making in Vietnam.
