(VOVworld) - The implementation of UN programs and action plans on sustainable development poses opportunities and challenges for Vietnam, said Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN. In 2015 the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on financing for development, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the Paris Agreement on climate change. At a recent press conference, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that in 2016, the international community must take on more responsibility so that commitments on sustainable development can be realized.

In Tuesday’s press interview, Ms. Nga said execution of the UN program and action plans represents a great opportunity. The visions and targets coincide with Vietnam’s development goals, which include building a country of prosperous people and a strong, democratic, civilized nation. She added that Party and State policies have included these objectives, especially rapid and sustainable economic growth, and social issues from health care, education and the environment to gender equality and care for less privileged groups. She noted that by pursuing a foreign policy of multilateralization and diversification of external relations, and proactive international integration, Vietnam has established close connections and gained experience in development cooperation with a number of various partners – particularly UN organizations.
