(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Germany have agreed to step up coordination in new fields like climate change response and renewable energy, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son.

During his just-concluded visit to Germany, Minister Son talked with German Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock, paid courtesy calls to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Council Bodo Ramelow, Minister-President of Hessen state Boris Rhein, and State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Michael Kellner.
President Steinmeier and President of the Federal Council Ramelow said there is a strong potential for cooperation in sci-tech, environmental protection, climate change response, vocational training, labour development, and locality-to-locality exchanges. They vowed to solve problems hampering bilateral trade.

Minister Son urged for effective implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and said he hopes the German Parliament will soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement and the German Government will support the early removal of the European Commission’s yellow card warning on Vietnam’s aquatic products for export.
Both sides agreed to continue offering mutual support within multilateral organizations and forums and help cultivate ASEAN-EU ties.
They stand together on ensuring peace, stability, security, cooperation, and development in the Asia-Pacific region, and settling disputes by peaceful means in line with international law and the UN Charter, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
