(VOVworld) – Vietnam values Russia’s increasing role in Asia-Pacific and its contributions to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation towards a sustainable regional structure, President Tran Dai Quang told Russian news agency TASS this week. In his very first interview granted to foreign media since his appointment as President of Vietnam in early April, Quang highlighted the dynamic development and strategic geo-economic and political importance of Asia-Pacific which is the center of new-generation free trade agreements with great potential for stronger global growth.

Quang said he hopes that Russia will continue to be a responsible world power by being actively involved in ASEAN – Russia cooperation mechanisms and helping ASEAN to improve the effectiveness of dialogue mechanisms and resolve security challenges in the region.
He promised that Vietnam, as an ASEAN member and Russia's strategic partner, will continue to serve as a bridge between ASEAN and Russia, thus strengthening the role of Vietnam and Russia in Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific region.
