(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam-Germany Hydrogen Seminar will take place on Thursday in HCMC to share knowledge and experiences in hydrogen project between Germany and international partners including Vietnam, and to develop hydrogen industry in Vietnam.
Vo Thanh Tung, Energy Advisor from the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ)’s Vietnam Green Hydrogen Development Project, said, “Vietnam has many advantages to develop the green hydrogen industry. Vietnam has abundant renewable energy sources, including solar power, onshore wind power, and offshore wind power.”
Tung cited the World Bank’s statistics as saying that Vietnam has the technical potential for offshore wind of up to 600kw. GIZ has also calculated the technical potential for green hydrogen, estimated that green hydrogen produced from solar power can reach up to 240 million tons per year.
“This is a very encouraging number. In addition, Vietnam has the advantage over a good geographical location that allows it to export a lot to the international market,” Tung noted.
According to the Vietnam Hydrogen Club VAHC, the workshop outcomes will help Germany and Vietnam conduct a joint feasibility study to implement hydrogen production and consumption projects in Vietnam for the chemical industry, garment manufacturing, the beverage industry which utilizes plastic packaging, the iron and steel industry, and to establish partnerships to pilot electricity production and transportation service models.
