At the event, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong presented a general introduction to Vietnam’s application of IT to poverty eradication. He said Vietnam has invested nearly 450 million USD from the Public-Utility Telecommunication Service Fund to provide internet and other telecommunication services to schools, hospitals, and People’s Committees of poor and near-poor localities until 2020. He said joint efforts of the government, people, businesses, and international partners will help boost the application of IT to poverty eradication to achieve Vietnam’s sustainable development goals.
The seminar on applying information technology to poverty eradication is Vietnam’s contribution to this year’s ECOSOC theme: "Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world".
