(VOVworld) – Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, has called on the world community to actively build a feasible international mechanism to ensure the rights of fishermen.

He made the call at an international seminar on ensuring safety at the workplace for maritime laborers, which was held by Vietnam and the International Labor Organization in Geneva on June 22 on the sidelines of the ongoing 32nd session of the UN Human Right Council.
Participants appreciated the organization of the forum as the rights of sea-based laborers in Southeast Asia and the world are being challenged. Ambassador Thanh called for stronger international cooperation in dealing with piracy, search and rescue missions, and reaching out to an international mechanism to protect fishermen’s rights.
