Vietnam is an important partner of Singapore, says FM Balakrishnan
(VOVWORLD) - Singapore considers Vietnam an important partner in the region and wants to further strengthen its strategic partnership with the country.

Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan made the statement on Tuesday during talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, who is on a two-day official visit to Singapore.
The two Foreign Ministers agreed to work closely with relevant ministries and agencies to effectively realize the outcomes of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Singapore in February and prepare for upcoming high-level visits, especially Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s official visit to Vietnam.

The two sides will effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Vietnam–Singapore Digital Economy and the Green Economy Partnership and accelerate negotiations on upgrading the framework of the Vietnam-Singapore Economic Connectivity Agreement.
The two sides agreed to bolster cooperation and promote ASEAN’s centrality, especially in such strategic issues as peace and stability in the East Sea and the region.
They are determined to make the East Sea a sea of peace, cooperation and development, work with ASEAN countries to fully seriously implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and soon finalize the Code of Conduct in the East Sea in an efficient, effective manner in line with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The same day, Foreign Minister Son met with Coordinating Minister for National Security of Singapore Teo Chee Hean and paid tribute to the statue of President Ho Chi Minh at the Asian Civilization Museum.
